I arrived back this morning from the Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta, NY. At the request of the event organizer, I had been asked to open up for KJ Denhert and Gil Parris. I didn't know anyone performing in the concert, and this was my first concert out of the Tri-state Metropolitan area. I was a little nervous, so I brought I girlfriend along for the ride.
Gil Parris and his band members were wonderful to watch and everyone was pleasant to be around. I especially had a wonderful time talking with Gil's bass player Kip the entire weekend. I was able to pick Kip's brain about his life as a musician and he gave me a lot of great advice. In fact, he made me write out music charts for him, which really challenged my brain.
We played pool after the show and ate some pretty unhealthy bar food. All in all, the experience was a fantastic first time away from home, and I hopefully I've made friends for a lifetime.
